Introduction:
In August 2024, the University of Georgia is seeking a assistantship PhD position student to work collaboratively with National Park Service staff on evaluating biosecurity actions for AIS in national parks in the southeastern U.S. using a decision analytic framework (i.e., structured decision making).
In addition to conducting a formal assessment of AIS in three case study parks and constructing species distribution models, the project will coordinate and facilitate structured decision-making workshops for each park (determining objectives and biosecurity actions related to AIS in parks, evaluating the effects of potential actions, and assessing tradeoffs and risks associated with potential actions).
Additionally, the student will develop and implement workshops to communicate results to NPS staff and volunteers, as well as create a guide for best practices in AIS biosecurity.
A team of researchers from UGA (USGS Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health) and the USGS Wetland Science Center will be working with the student. Depending on interest and availability, the student may be able to serve as a teaching assistant.
In addition, he or she will present research results at scientific conferences and publish papers in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, lab members are expected to maintain a supportive collegiate environment. Other related duties may also be assigned as needed (e.g., required training, contribution to the operation of the research unit).

Required Qualification

- An interest in the management of invasive species / population dynamics, as well as structured decision making,
- Social and networking skills that are strong
- Experience with quantitative modeling,
