Lab Report: Study on material passage diagram of jute softener machine in jute spinning.


Among the bast fibers, jute is a lingo-cellulosic natural fiber derived from the skin of the plant’s stem. It is a composite fiber consisting of many ultimate fibers cemented together by lignin. A single technical fiber contains approximately five to ten ultimate fibers crosswise, and more than a thousand fibers lengthwise.

It is necessary to soften jute fiber before it can be manufactured jute yarn. Softening machines consist of many pairs of fluted or corrugated rollers arranged horizontally in succession and driven by reciprocation. It is possible to sprinkle oil and water on the jute as it passes through the machine overhead, or to arrange it in layers and spray it with oil after it emerges from the  softener, a process known as batching. The material is then allowed to lie in bulk for a certain amount of time, allowing the oil to thoroughly permeate the fiber.

Types of Jute Softener Machine:

These machines consist of 24 to 64 pairs of rollers as well as these are spirally fluted as well as jute goes through them. When the jute passes i tertiary of the rollers thence the emulsion is added amongst the spray. Then through the delivery rollers the jute is passed on to the delivery sheet. There are three types of softener machine.

  1. Single softener machine.
  2. Tandem softener machine
  3. Good softener machine.

Function of Jute Softener Machine:

  1. Comb and open the jute pieces.
  2. Converting the sliver into a continuous sliver that receives a consistent batching emulsion application.
  3. Preparation of ribbon live sliver.
  4. Weight reduction per unit length of sliver.
  5. Jute is mechanically loosening and lubricated by the machine.

Working Principle of Jute softener Machine:

The machine does 2 operations, namely mechanical loosening lubricating of jute. This machine consists of 24-64 pairs of rollers. These rollers are spirally fluted as well as jute goes through them. Here a pairs of feed rollers as well as a couple of delivery rollers are too available which are quest fluted. Here emulsion is sprayed on 1/3 surface area of machine. Generally this spraying machine is placed on 22-24 couplet of roller is measure softening machines. There is a direct correlation between jute softener machine quality and jute quality. So when we treat jute with softener machine, we should be careful. This experiment was very important to us. It will be very helpful for us in the future.
